There are many different career opportunities that a biochemist may pursue. The two classic routes are academia, working as a university faculty member conducting research as well as teaching, and industry, working for a private company doing research such as a pharmacuetical or biotech company. There are also many government jobs available, such as the CDC, FDA, or working in the U.S. patent office. Majoring in biochem would also serve as excellent preparation for a professional school such as med, vet, or dental school.
